Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, Palak, and Chhatra League Leader Saikat Arrested
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Shamsul Haque Tuku, the Deputy Speaker of the 12th National Parliament, along with former Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Tanvir Hasan Saikat, General Secretary of the Dhaka University branch of the Chhatra League.
According to a text message from DMP's Public Relations Department on Wednesday night, the three were arrested while in hiding in the Nikunja residential area under Khilkhet Police Station, based on secret information. They were apprehended in connection with a case filed at Paltan Police Station in Dhaka.
This follows the arrest of former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Private Sector and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman on Tuesday evening. According to another DMP message, Anisul Haque and Salman F Rahman were arrested by police while attempting to flee by boat from Dhaka's Sadarghat area. They were shown arrested in connection with a murder case filed over the death of a hawker named Md Shahjahan during a clash on July 16 in front of Dhaka College amid the anti-discrimination student movement.
Today, Wednesday, Detective Police presented Anisul Haque and Salman F Rahman before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (CMM) in Dhaka, seeking a 10-day remand for both. After the hearing, the court granted a 10-day remand for the two.
