Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina May Be Tried in International Crimes Tribunal: Legal Advisor
Interim Government's legal advisor, Professor Asif Nazrul, has stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina could face trial in the International Crimes Tribunal for ordering killings that took place between July 1 and August 5 during the student and public protests.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the Secretariat, Asif Nazrul said the interim government has decided to prosecute the killings that occurred during the protests in the International Crimes Tribunal.
He highlighted that these incidents, which took place between July 1 and August 5, involved atrocities such as shootings and mass killings. Various student organizations, human rights groups, and public factions have raised concerns about whether these events can be prosecuted as crimes against humanity. After thorough review, the legal team has concluded that individuals involved in these acts, including those who issued orders or provided support, can be brought to justice under the existing laws.
The legal advisor emphasized that they will not spare anyone involved, including top officials from the outgoing government. If evidence of command responsibility is found against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or any other ministers, they will be investigated and held accountable.
