Key Government Figures Arrested After Sheikh Hasina's Fall, Allegations and Revelations Emerge
Former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's private industry and investment advisor Salman F. Rahman, former Law Minister Anisul Huq, former State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former Director General of the National Telecommunications Monitoring Center (NTMC), Major General (Retd.) Ziaul Ahsan, are currently being interrogated by the Detective Branch (DB) police after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. They have revealed several startling pieces of information during their remand.

Under intense questioning, Tuku disclosed that he had no intention of becoming a minister but only accepted the role at the insistence of the former Prime Minister. Rahman stated that he had already served two years in jail during the previous regime, and if imprisoned again, it would harm the country's interests. Ahsan, meanwhile, claimed that his responsibilities included recording phone calls of selected individuals, not everyone, and denied allegations of recording WhatsApp calls.

When asked about alleged bribery in police recruitment, Tuku denied any involvement, saying, "I first heard of this from you." In response to questions about the abolition of the caretaker government system, Anisul Huq claimed that the decision was based on a court ruling, though the DB officers pointed out that the government could have chosen to retain the system for two more terms.

Palak, in his statements, revealed that towards the end of the student protests, he had advised the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to understand the students' demands and step down if necessary. He was subsequently expelled from Ganabhaban. Palak also mentioned the cancellation of a 500-crore contract with the 10-Minute School, reportedly due to pressure from former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel.

Major General Ziaul Ahsan was questioned about his role during the 2013 Shapla Chattar incident, where numerous people were killed. He responded that his orders were to clear the area at any cost, but he claimed no lives were lost due to his actions. When asked about other incidents, including alleged extrajudicial killings, he denied involvement and said he had warned the former Prime Minister on several occasions.

The detainees have claimed that Sheikh Hasina alone was responsible for the chaos that ensued, as she rarely listened to their advice. The DB officers challenged this claim, asking why they did not resign if they truly believed she was wrong.

The interrogations have revealed a pattern of discontent and a lack of unity among the former leaders, suggesting that many were unwilling participants in controversial decisions during Sheikh Hasina's tenure.
