In a recent sit-down interview with Alex Chapman, the towering Blackcaps paceman discussed his career origins, his grueling battle with back injuries, and the exciting future of New Zealand's fast-bowling ranks. Jamieson detailed his recent successful rehabilitation process, noting a surprising revelation regarding his persistent spine issues. "My latest rehab was nothing to do with my back," he explained. Instead, the focus was entirely on the kinetic chain, addressing a left ankle that had "virtually zero range" and glutes that had essentially switched off. Kyle Jamieson | Photo: Matthew Impey/Photosport Previously, Jamieson had been overcompensating and unable to properly hinge, which forced inappropriate loads through his spine during heavy lifting and bowling. By fixing his body's alignment from the ankle up through the knees and hips, he now has the physical bandwidth to absorb forces correctly. Discussing the unique mindset of fast bowlers, Jamieson expressed his love for the physical and technical intricacies of the craft. He is highly optimistic about the current crop of New Zealand pace bowlers, praising the chance to build a pack mentality with emerging talents like Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears over the next four to five years. Jamieson also reflected on his early athletic years, revealing he was torn between basketball and cricket at age 15 while part of the NZ Breakers' development program. A pivotal moment came during an under-19 tournament when Dayle Hadlee, older brother of Sir Richard Hadlee, advised him to try running in, sparking his enduring passion for bowling mechanics. He also credited Heinrich Malan as one of the best technical coaches he's worked with for helping connect the pieces of his game.
