The game is underway at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. The breakthrough came on the final delivery of the 17th over of the Black Caps' innings. Gurnoor Brar bowled a full delivery angled away outside off, and Latham attempted a tentative on-drive, only to chip the ball to the seamer's left. Gurnoor stretched out his left hand and completed a stunning one-handed reflex return catch to dismiss the southpaw. Tom Latham had a brief stay at the crease, managing just three runs off 11 deliveries. His dismissal left the hosts at 84/4 at the end of 17 overs. After being asked to bat first, New Zealand's opening pair of Will Young and Tim Seifert added 22 runs off 27 deliveries. Arshdeep Singh provided India with their first breakthrough in the fifth over, dismissing Young for nine off 11 balls, including two boundaries. The left-arm seamer struck again in the ninth over, removing Henry Nicholls for nine off 11 deliveries, with the batter hitting two boundaries during his stay. The hosts finished the powerplay at 45/2, with Seifert batting on 23 off 31 balls and Daryl Mitchell on four off seven. The pair added 33 runs off 35 balls for the third wicket before Gurnoor Brar dismissed Seifert, who scored 38 off 43, including three fours and two sixes. The lanky seamer then removed Tom Latham for three off 11 balls to claim his second wicket of the match. At the time of writing, the hosts were 97/4 after 21 overs, with Mitchell batting on 28 off 41 deliveries and Glenn Phillips, the Player of the Series in the T20I leg, on five off nine balls.
