Dignity on the Stage, Deprivation in Real Life!
Md. Tanzim Hossain, Educator
Today is Teachers’ Day. A grand event was organised, where the Prime Minister, Education Minister and other dignitaries spoke about the dignity and financial security of teachers. These are certainly good words to hear.
But teachers now want implementation, not just words.
MPO-listed teachers have had to struggle for a long time just to receive a 15% house rent allowance beyond their basic salary. The festival allowance is 50%, also achieved after prolonged struggles. And the medical allowance is only Tk. 500!
With Tk. 500, it is difficult even to think about proper medical treatment today.
The dignity of teachers cannot be established through speeches alone. It must be reflected in the actual improvement of their salaries and allowances, house rent, medical benefits, retirement security and overall quality of life.
On Teachers’ Day, therefore, we have a simple question:
How long will we continue to hear beautiful words about teachers?
It is time to turn promises into official orders and announcements into real benefits.
Because a teacher’s dignity should not remain confined to speeches—it must be visible in the life of every teacher.
Not more words. We want implementation.
