Leaders and members of the Moulvibazar Online Press Club held a views-exchange meeting with the district’s newly appointed Superintendent of Police, Md Monirul Islam, on Thursday.

The meeting took place at the conference room of the Superintendent of Police’s office.
The discussion focused on the district’s law and order situation, drug control and strengthening cooperation between the police and journalists.
Addressing the meeting, SP Md Monirul Islam said the district police would follow a zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
“Drugs are a serious curse for society and the younger generation,” he said. “The district police are determined to take strict action against drug-related activities. However, it is not possible for the police alone to eliminate drugs from society. Social awareness, objective reporting and cooperation from journalists are very important in this regard.”
He stressed the need for a joint effort by the administration, journalists and the general public to prevent drug abuse and trafficking.
Journalists at the meeting presented the current situation of drug trading in the district and offered several suggestions for its prevention. They also assured the police of their full cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, leaders of the Moulvibazar Online Press Club presented the organisation’s special publication, Smaranika: Muktoboli, to the SP.
Among others, Moulvibazar Online Press Club President Khaled Chowdhury, Vice-Presidents Joseph Ali Chowdhury, Pintu Debnath and Anjan Prasad Roy Chowdhury, General Secretary Md Mushahid Ahmad, Ripon Ahmad, S A Chowdhury Joy, Abdul Basit Khan, Chinu Ranjan Talukdar, Jyotirmoy Chakraborty, Shah Md Fazlur Rahman, Nasrin Akter Priya, Shayek Ahmad, Jahedul Islam Pappu, Tawhid Islam, Sadikur Rahman Sabbir, Swaran Singh, Zainal Abedin and Hakim Zainal Abedin were present.
