Dozens of journalists staged a rally in the northern district of Sirajganj on Monday, demanding swift justice for the brutal killing of Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a newspaper reporter hacked to death in Gazipur last week.

The protest, held in front of Sirajganj Press Club, drew reporters from across the district and nearby upazilas, joined by political, social, and cultural leaders expressing solidarity. Participants wore black badges and observed a minute of silence for Tuhin.

Speakers condemned the daylight attack as a grave assault on press freedom. They called for the immediate arrest of those responsible, renewed demands for justice in other journalist killings — including the 2012 double murder of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi — and urged the government to pass a comprehensive Journalist Protection Law.

“Killing Tuhin in broad daylight is not only the silencing of one voice — it is an attack on the very foundation of free media in Bangladesh,” said Harun-or-Rashid Khan Hasan, president of Sirajganj Press Club.

BNP leader Sayeedur Rahman Bachchu and other local press figures warned of continued protests until the perpetrators face exemplary punishment, vowing to escalate demonstrations to the national level if justice is delayed.

Tuhin, a staff reporter for Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, was attacked with machetes in Gazipur on August 6. Police have yet to announce any arrests in the case.
