Bandarban Correspondent:
Allegations of secretly recording private videos of women, threatening to circulate them, demanding money, and physically assaulting victims have surfaced against Mishkatun Nabi Mishkat, General Secretary of the Bandarban Sadar Upazila unit of the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).
Mishkat had previously been imprisoned in connection with a case filed under the Pornography Control Act over allegations of blackmail involving a private video of his own mother-in-law. Following his release on bail, fresh allegations have emerged accusing him of engaging in similar activities.
The latest incident reportedly occurred on October 12 in the Majherpara area of Sualak Union under Bandarban Sadar Upazila, where a woman was allegedly assaulted, sustaining a head injury, and threatened with the circulation of her private videos on social media.
The alleged victim, Hasina Begum (45), said she received treatment at Bandarban Sadar Hospital before submitting a written complaint to Bandarban Sadar Police Station.
According to the complaint, on October 12, Mishkatun Nabi Mishkat allegedly intercepted a motorcycle being ridden by Rayhan, the son of Hasina Begum, in the Majherpara area of Sualak Union.
During the incident, Mishkat allegedly demanded money while threatening to circulate private videos of Rayhan's mother on social media.
Upon learning about the incident, Hasina Begum rushed to the scene, where she was allegedly physically assaulted. She sustained a head injury and subsequently received medical treatment at Bandarban Sadar Hospital.
Hasina Begum alleged that the accused had been demanding money from her for a considerable period by threatening to release her private videos.
She further claimed that he had repeatedly threatened to publish the videos on social media if she failed to meet his financial demands.
According to her written complaint, some of her private videos had already been circulated through several fake Facebook accounts.
Hasina Begum is reportedly the Joint Secretary of the Bandarban District unit of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal.
She alleged that despite submitting a written complaint to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station on the day of the incident, she had received no confirmation that a case had been registered as of October 17.
Allegations of Blackmail Involving a College Student
Meanwhile, Mishkatun Nabi Mishkat has also been accused of establishing a relationship with the college-going daughter of Kulsum Begum, a reserved-seat female member of Sualak Union Parishad, secretly recording private videos, and subsequently using them for alleged blackmail.
According to the allegations, the young woman is a second-year Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) student.
Mishkat allegedly persuaded her to enter into a relationship through various inducements and later used private videos to intimidate and threaten her.
However, considering the young woman's privacy, dignity, and personal safety, her name and the identity of her educational institution have been withheld.
UP Member Refrains from Filing Case Over Concerns About Daughter's Future
Speaking about the matter, Kulsum Begum, a reserved-seat female member of Sualak Union Parishad, said she had decided not to pursue legal action due to concerns about her daughter's future and social reputation.
According to her account, police took possession of the accused's mobile phone and deleted private videos of her daughter stored on the device.
She further claimed that Mishkat was subsequently released after signing a written undertaking.
Kulsum Begum said, "My daughter has grown up, and we will have to arrange her marriage in the future. If I file a case over this incident, it could create difficulties for her future. That is why I have decided not to file a case."
However, no official statement from the police was available regarding the alleged seizure of the mobile phone, deletion of videos, or release of the accused following a written undertaking.
Allegations of Misusing Police Informant Identity to Exert Influence
Mishkatun Nabi Mishkat has also faced allegations at the local level of identifying himself as a police informant to exert influence and harassing individuals by allegedly implicating them in false cases.
Written Complaint Filed, Police Response Unavailable
Hasina Begum claimed that she submitted a written complaint to Bandarban Sadar Police Station on October 12 regarding the alleged assault, demands for money, and threats to circulate her private videos.
She expressed anger and frustration over the alleged failure to register a case despite the submission of her complaint.
When contacted by mobile phone, accused Mishkatun Nabi Mishkat denied all allegations against him.
He claimed that a conspiracy was being carried out against him.
Attempts were made to contact Md. Masud Parvez, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, by mobile phone for his comments on the allegations. However, he could not be reached until the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, the correspondent informed Bandarban Superintendent of Police Md. Wahabul Islam Khandaker about the matter through a written WhatsApp message.
However, no response had been received from the Superintendent of Police at the time of filing this report.
