When her condition deteriorated, she was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital at night. From there, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where she died around 6:30 am on Wednesday (August 20). Police and locals said that three years ago, Dulal Sheikh (38), son of deceased Md. Zafar Sheikh of Ward No. 4 area of Chila Gabbunia, got married to Ranjila Begum (28), daughter of Idris Sheikh of the same area. Since the marriage, Dulal had been physically abusing Ranjila, including beating her. Several arbitration meetings have been held in the area regarding this incident, but the locals could not find a solution.
Relatives and locals alleged that former BNP leader Md. Khabir Sheikh, a member of the area, was influential, so his brother Dulal Sheikh used to carry out criminal activities recklessly. There are several allegations against him of killing his first wife and terrorist activities in the area. A complaint was also filed with the Mongla Police Station along with a general diary regarding the torture and beating of Ranjila Begum's husband Dulal. Later, unable to bear the torture of her husband, Ranjila Begum divorced her husband Dulal a month and a half ago. Since then, Ranjila had been staying at her father's house. But her husband Dulal, angry over the divorce, went to his father Idris Sheikh's house on Wednesday (August 19) afternoon and called his wife Ranjila to a back room to talk first. As soon as he arrived there, he first hit her on the head with a brick, causing Ranjila to fall to the ground. Later, Dulal escaped with bloody injuries after slashing her with a stick. At that time, locals rushed to the scene of Ranjila's screams and admitted her to the Mongla Upazila Health Complex in a life-threatening condition. Seeing her condition deteriorating, the doctor on duty advised her to be taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Later, on the way to Dhaka for better treatment, Ranjila Begum died at 6:40 am on Wednesday (August 20).
In this incident, the accused murderer, Dulal Sheikh, was arrested by the local people from a tea shop in the Jora Bridge area of Gabbunia and handed over to the police. On Wednesday morning, the police sent him to the district jail through the court. The body of Rangira Begum has been sent from Dhaka to her home in Mongla, according to relatives.
